Garment sizing is a procurement-operational challenge that directly affects contamination control. A coverall that is too tight restricts movement and stresses seams. One that is too loose creates excess fabric that brushes against surfaces. Getting sizing right for a production team — not just one operator — requires measurement protocol, distribution planning, and a stocking strategy.
Five-Point Measurement Protocol
Every operator should be measured at five points. Use the supplier’s sizing chart to map measurements to garment sizes. Do not assume sizes — “I usually wear a Large” is not a measurement.

How do I measure operators for cleanroom coveralls?
Measure five points: height, chest circumference, waist circumference, inseam, and arm length. Use the supplier’s sizing chart. Measure annually. Record measurements in each operator’s gowning qualification file.
What if an operator doesn’t fit any standard size?

How many spare garments should I stock?
At minimum: 2 spares per stocked size. This covers a garment being retired mid-shift or a new operator joining who needs a size not currently in the active rotation. For high-turnover facilities, increase to 3-4 spares per size.
How often should operators be re-measured?
Annually, as part of gowning recertification. If an operator reports discomfort, restricted movement, or visible fit issues (sleeves too short, coverall riding up), re-measure immediately regardless of the annual schedule.
